David R. Marshall is Associate Professor and Principal Fellow in Art History at the School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne. He is a fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and Honorary Research Fellow of the British School in Rome. He is a Director of the Melbourne Art Network and was the founder and editor of Melbourne Art Journal (MAJ). His research centres on view-painting and the art, architecture and urbanism of the city of Rome in the 17thand 18th centuries. His books include Viviano Codazzi and the Baroque Architectural Fantasy (1993) and Rediscovering a Baroque Villa in Rome: Cardinal Patrizi and the Villa Patrizi 1715-1909 (2015). He has edited several collections, including ‘The Italians’ in Australia: Studies in Renaissance and Baroque Art (2004); Art Site and Spectacle: Studies in Early Modern Visual Culture (2007), The Site of Rome: Studies in the Art and Topography of Rome 1400-1880 (2014)
