Archaeological Institute of America lecturer and host Ili (Helen) Nagy, recently retired from her position as Professor of Art History at the University of Puget Sound, specializes in the art and archaeology of Greece and Rome, early Christian and Byzantine Art, and Etruscan archaeology. She has authored numerous articles in these fields, especially on Etruscan votives and mirrors. Professor Nagy received her Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from UCLA. She is a fellow and trustee of the American Academy in Rome, where she also held the position of Director of the Classical Summer School. She has served as Professor-in-Charge at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. Professor Nagy is former President of the AIA’s Seattle Society and a recent academic Trustee of the AIA’s Governing Board (2005-11). She lectures on the AIA’s National Lecture circuit, and has lectured to excellent reviews on several AIA-sponsored Mediterranean voyages since 2006, including several of these Aegean Sea cruises aboard Aegean Odyssey since fall 2010. Professor Nagy has also led previous tours to Egypt, Greece, and Roman Hungary and Austria, and has extensive experience teaching on site in Italy.
