Lorenzo Braccesi (1941) Retired university professor, essayist. He was full Professor of Greek History at the universities of Turin, Venice and Padua. He has been engaged on several fronts of historical research, which can be traced back to three basic interests: Greek colonisation and its peripheral areas, ideology and propaganda in the ancient world, and the legacy of classical culture in modern literature. He has written around four hundred research contributions and has published with leading Italian publishers (including L'ERMA di Bretschneider, Laterza, Salerno, Cappelli, Carocci, Bompiani, Liguori). In 1990 he founded Hesperìa, Studi sulla grecità di occidente, a scholarly journal that deals with the history of the Greeks of the West.
He has received numerous awards for his work, including honorary citizenship in Giardini Naxos, Sicily.
