The journal has been published since 1950 aiming to follow the archaeological research of Italians in Libya. The current publishing project resumes the publication that ceased in 2009. The new series comes to life again with the publication of volume 21 through L’ERMA di Bretschneider so as to guarantee an editorial venue of high scientific prestige for scholars interested in the archaeology and history of Libya and the Maghreb. All articles, published in the main European languages, are introduced by an abstract in English. Thanks to intensive cooperation with colleagues in the Department of Antiquities of Libya, each volume is also provided with abstracts in Arabic and an illustrated back cover. The new format is divided into several sections, with the aim of broadening interests to more differentiated and multidisciplinary areas, including research areas such as epigraphy, ancient and colonial history, history of archaeology, history of the territory, archival documentation and digital resources, management and conservation needs of cultural heritage, all of which are topical issues, taking into account the latest developments in the political situation in Libya. This extension is not limited to individual disciplines, but is also extended to the other Maghreb territories, in the conviction of the value of international exchange and cooperation on shared research themes, not only of a purely archaeological nature.
