Il catalogo della mostra omonima allestita dal Gruppo Archeologico Aquileiese, inserita nel novero delle Grandi Mostre della Regione Friuli-Venezia Giulia, per le annate 1996 e 1997, apporta un contributo alla conoscenza della storia di Aquileia, non già solo romana o paleocristiana, ma anche medioevale. Grazie all'opera dell'illuminato patriarca Poppone, la città ebbe modo di vivere una vera e propria "rinascenza", ancor oggi testimoniata dalla grandi opere dell'XI secolo che vi sorgono. Nel volume sono trattate la figura e le opere del "patriarca di ferro", non disgiunte dal necessario inquadramento generale sul secolo del Mille. Oltre cento schede dei pezzi esposti nella mostra - alcuni dei quali finora inediti - strutturate in modo articolato, chiudono l'ampio testo.
This catalogue is drawn from an exhibition mounted by Aquileia's Gruppo Archeological and is part of a group of Great Exhibits promoted by the regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia for 1996-1997, and offers a contribution to our understanding of the history of Aquileia, not only in the Roman or Paleochristian periods, but in the Medieval as well. Thanks to the work of the illuminated patriarch Poppone, the city was able to live a true and proper "renaissance" that can still be seen in the grand works of the eleventh century that are still standing. In this volume, both the figure and the works of the "Iron Patriarch" are therefore considered within the general framework of the of year 1000. Over one hundred entries of individual exhibition pieces, some of which have never be published before, are structured in a well articulated fashion and complement the ample text.
