Nel regesto di fonti che costituisce il nucleo di questo lavoro sono raccolte in ordine cronologico le testimonianze scritte riguardanti il territorio dell'odierna Leonessa, dai primi documenti che si ritrovano nelle carte dell'abbazia di Farfa sino all'epoca della sua fondazione. Se ne seguono quindi la vicende inserendole nel contesto di sviluppo dei tre grandi comuni limitrofi di Spoleto, Rieti e l'Aquila tra VIII e XIII secolo.

In the list of sources that constitute the nucleus of this work, is the chronological collection of written testimonies regarding the territory of modern day Leonessa. From the earliest documents found in the papers of the Farfa Abby and reach back to era of its foundation. Following those papers therefore, one sees the unfolding of events and can place them within the context of the development of three great neighboring communities, Spoleto, Rieti and Aquila between the VIII and XIII centuries.
