Il riferimento di Plinio (n.h. XXXVT, 125)
Come a Ostia.
The passage of Pliny, nat. hist. XXXVI,
125,
refers to the reconstruction of the
breakwater by emperor Claudius. Agrippa, during the war against Sextus Pompeius,
had already used the Lucrino-Averno complex as a
base for the naval fleet, in spite of its shallow
depth. To reduce the risk of attack, Agrippa
avoided using Miseno: the fleet would move
there in the decade after the victories of Naulochus and Actium.
The submerged remains in
the area of the ancient lacus Lucrinus are mostly related to the commercial buildings constructed during the reigns of Claudius and Nero to enhance the trade of public grain.
