Ardea, tempio in località Colle della Noce. Il sistema di rivestimento fittile

The archaic temple in Ardea, Colle della Noce, came to light with a series of excavations in 1981 and 1982. Some of the architectural terracottas that covered the temple were displayed in an exhibition in 1983, while most of them lay in a warehouse of the Lazio Archaeological Superintendence, waiting to be studied. This work concerns all the architectural terracottas found in the warehouse, amounting to more than 300 fragments of the temple’s revetment. By studying these fragments I have been able to outline the history of the temple, which probably saw three major revetment phases, from the end of the 5th century to the 1st century B.C. The first revetment phase (5th-4th century B.C.) is particularly interesting: it is represented by high-quality fragments that can help us establish the chronology of construction of the temple, generally related to the colonial deduction of the city, which took place in 442 B.C.
