This
paper
presents
the
results
of
an
archaeological-antiquarian
study
stemming
from
the
casual
finding
of
an
archived
document
in
the
course
of
research
on
the
collection
of
Luciano
Bonaparte,
Prince
of
Canino.
This
document,
dated
1829,
refers
to
a
visit
of
King
Ludwig
I
of
Bavaria
to
Pope
Pius
VIII.
The
pope
was
planning
to
make
a
gift
to
the
king
of
ancient
pottery.
The
Princess
of
Canino,
Alexandrina
de
Bleschamp,
on
request
of
the
pope,
offered
an
Attic
red-figure
amphora
of
Andokides
(Paris,
Louvre,
i.GI),
an
Attic
red-figure
hydria
of
Phintias
(London,
British
Museum,
i.E159),
and
a
fragmentary
vase,
discovered
in
a
Vulci
necropolis
"from
the
Ania
tomb",
which
leads
to
the
purpose
of
this
study.
