After
examining
the
documentary
sources
(ancient
texts,
inscriptions,
early
publications,
travelers'
accounts)
and
some
examples
from
Cisalpine
Gaul,
populated
by
Celts
and
a
province
until
Augustus
(about
66
documents),
and
Transalpine
Gaul
(some
120
documents),
the
author
addresses
their
interpretation,
realistic
or
symbolic,
and
possible
models:
Egypt,
Greece,
Etruria,
Central
Italy
(Rome,
Ostia).
The
author
then
evaluates
the
Celtic
ethnic
and
cultural
milieu
(interest
in
the
trades)
and
the
contribution
of
the
written
sources
(literary
texts
and
ancient
inscriptions)
in
comparing
them
with
the
figured
documents.
Finally,
the
author
proposes
some
historical,
geographical,
social
and
cultural
conclusions
as
well
as
new
research
on
earlier
periods
(rock
carvings
of
the
Alps,
for
example)
and
later
(for
example,
labors
of
the
months,
rustic
calendars,
Christian
interpretation).
