Starting with an examination of the costume, the author proposes a rereading of the bronze Hercules of Birdoswald on Hadrian's Wall, as a product of the Sabellian area, probably Campania, dating to the second half of the fourth century B.C. While the facial features, of Scopaic stamp, are comparable to those of the head of a clay statue of the god from Teano, the stance seems, rather, to be inspired by an ancient cult statue, which followed the Cypriot iconography of Hercules, introduced to the region by the Etruscans.
