This
paper
re-examines
what
is
known
about
the
coastal
Iron
Age
site
of
"La
Mattonara",
and
attempts
to
fill
out
and
bring
up
to
date
the
bibliography
and
review
the
archaeological
finds
in
different
museums.
It
also
offers
some
observations
based
on
recent
visits.
The
settlement
belongs
to
that
group
of
sites
located
along
the
coast
between
Tarquinia
and
S.
Severa,
the
origin
and
development
of
which
are
related
to
the
expansion
of
the
proto-urban
Villanovan
centres
during
the
Iron
Age.
The
sites
seem
to
be
characterised
by
a
specialised
production
and
storage
of
seafood,
which
can
be
assumed
from
the
large
quantity
of
quite
well-defined
categories
of
vessels
probably
intended
for
such
activities.
The
study
permits
clarification
of
some
aspects
of
the
chronological
and
topographical
situation
of
the
site
of
La
Mattonara,
which
is
likely
to
be
soon
completely
destroyed.
