The water of the Lucrine Lake flowed into the submerged imperial nynphaeum below Punta
Epitaffio, at Baiae; on the other side the lake extended as far as the suburbs of Puteoli, near the
Mons Gaurus.
The traditional aerophoto graphical interpretation as two basins around a wharf in
the inner Harbour of the "portus Julius" is groundless: there were in fact two quadrangular contiguous horrea.
In another horreum was stored a considerable quantity of ceruse (crete from Leucogean
hills, western slope of the Solfatara crater), which can be associated with the production of alica
from local spelt (zea or semen).
