Among the archaeological finds in possession of Sforza Ruspoli, Prince of Cerveteri, there is a large Attic kylix (diam. about 48 cm) decorated with red-figure technique (outside) and white ground (and red technique) inside, which can be attributed to the Meidias Painter. The scene preserved shows a seated woman elegantly dressed, surrounded by other women, one of whom hands her a casket. The scene is virtually indistinguishable from the ones showing Aphrodite surrounded by her cortege. On the evidence of the archival documents we can locate the discovery of the vase in the necropolis of Banditaccia, at Cerveteri, in the “Nuovo Recinto” area.
