Due to the geographical position and its centrality between the Mediterranean trade routes, Sicily in the antiquity developed industrial
production of fish-related products. Fourteen salted fish installations have been identified, relying on the North-West and South-East
coasts of the island. They developed in the roman age thanks to the proximity to the tuna routes coming into the Mediterranean from
the Atlantic sea. The present contribution sheds light on some aspects. They were linked to the processing, storage and conservation of the
sea-related products, moving from the study of the material culture and the topographic analysis of the installations. The report will focus
on the typological analysis of the Dressel 21-22 samples from Sicily. The analysis of these samples will result in an upgrade of the related
commercial and industrial aspects of the installations, in order to obtain an overall view of the sicilian sites.
