We analyze the stratigraphic findings of the amphorae in the excavations at various locations in an insula of Pompeii, the VII 4, near the
Forum and the macellum, with special attention to the ones from Sicily and Africa.
These amphorae have been found from the 2nd century BC and until the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
We will pay attention on the tubular and Dr. 26 amphorae and the other ones (Dr. 21-22, Ostia LIX) that were coetaneous. Their fabrics
do not exclude an African origin but they aren’t from eastern Sicily. So, it seems that they were not made in Tauromenion area.
