This paper is aimed to discuss minor roads placed north east of Rome between via Salaria and via Praenestina, passing through via Nomentana and
via Tiburtina-Valeria, and from the border of ager Romanus to approximately the XXX mile. These roads connected, as shortcuts and local commercial axes, the viae publicae through the territories of Nomentum,
Tibur, Praeneste up to the area of Sabini (Cures Sabini) and of Equi (Trebula Suffenas, Afilae).
Often following in the footsteps of ancient transhumance paths, they were first settled with the Roman conquest between c. 400 BC - c. 300 BC, then, in concurrence with the heavy diffusion of the villa rustica, between c. 200 BC-c. 100 BC, kept in use until the Late Antiquity and the Early Middle-Ages. Two roads (Nomentum-Tibur and Praeneste-Treblis-Carsioli) are reported in the Tabula Peutingeriana, other two could be identified with the Sabiniensis and the Pedana (in the inscriptions), others have hypothetical names (Trebulana, Trebana, Afilana) or known for the Middle-Ages (Flagense, Monticellana).
