The key word for any change is "fear": the oldest feeling in the world that triggers social action, in other words, withdrawal, the decision to not go forward with change, either because of the inability or the impossibility of following a new path. But it is also true that social behaviour can take a different direction and that is what made us take an alternative, even surprising direction, in that it exceeded the threshold of the norm, the unknown. As if the emotional component, repressed by what had always been handed on from the past and, therefore, accepted supinely and passively, had received an impulse for a change in direction. This was the birth of the Journal “Quaderni di Scienza della Conservazione” which was later to become “Conservation Science in Cultural Heritage”.
