Archaeological Survey along the Wadi Caam-Taraglat (1998-2000): the Documentary and Graphical Recording
This contribution focuses on the graphic documentation created for some representative sites from the surveys along the basin of the Wadi Caam-Taraglat, south-east of Lepcis Magna, conducted between 1998 and 2000 by the Archaeological Mission of the Università Roma Tre. The drawings are presented here for the first time. Complete description of the 17 documented sites organized by functional and chronological categories is provided and accompanied by the dating of the recovered archaeological material.
For the Roman imperial period two open farms/villas, three open/fortified farms one fortified farm and one village are analyzed, while for the Islamic age five fortified villages, one tower and two open farms are presented. In addition, two hydraulic systems mostly built in the Roman imperial age and reused in the Medieval
age are taken into consideration. The documentation presented here constitutes an important addition to our knowledge
of the settlement fabric of the Lepcitanian hinterland.
