To Enrica. Enrica Fiandra (1926-2020). A Multifaceted Personality
The paper is a tribute to Enrica Fiandra, a great scholar who made a substantial and innovative contribution to many fields of archaeological research. Her scientific curiosity led Enrica to work in different countries and on different kinds of materials and topics, often paying attention to aspects usually poorly observed by other scholars and, by so doing, introducing new perspectives and innovative analytical methods. She took part in several field researches in various areas of the world, sometimes – as in the case of Libya – directing the project, and worked to safeguard and protect the
Cultural Heritage in Italy. But her most remarkable and ground-breaking contribution was her pioneering interpretation of the clay-sealing function, and the ‘invention’ of a method by which to study these correctly. This method is today
internationally recognised and has led to a new way of looking at the origin and early development of administration
and bureaucracy.
