The Archive Documentation of the Joint Italian-Libyan Mission “Flavian Temple”
A historical archive is the last stage of life of an archive, in which its historical and cultural value prevails.
An archive is born spontaneously from the sediment of documents produced by the ‘producer subject’ to preserve its memory. Archival science, over time, has dictated the rules for the proper management of paper archives. Preserving historical memory is an essential duty for the preservation and protection of Libyan cultural heritage, especially in the current socio-political climate. The Mission Flavian Temple, adhering to the initiative of the Department of Antiquities of Libya (DoA), is digitizing the Libyan material preserved in the archive of the Centro Internazionale Ricerche Archeologiche Antropologiche e Storiche (CIRAAS onlus) to which the mission belongs. This article describes the work conducted so far, the criteria adopted, the different sections in which the censused photographic material could be divided and the estimated quantities.
