  • Abstract

The sixth volume of the series provides a new introduction, critical text, translation and extensive exegetical, historical and philosophical commentary of books VII and VIII of Aristotle's Politics. It elucidates the theoretical foundations, the concrete (environmental, demographic and political) conditions, and the historical underpinnings of Aristotle's "city of our wishes", as well as the educational programme that he recommends for its citizens, with a particular focus on musical education. Setting the text in the context of contemporary reflections and experiences, it makes a major contribution to the study of Aristotle's ethical and political thought, and of the cultural and political milieu in which it was produced.
