The region of Venetiae, that extended around the Adriatic inlet, is considered in the testimonies of the ancients as an intertwining of lands, lagoons, and navigable rivers: the inhabitants of the countryside and the main cities appeared to live in symbiosis with the environment, treasuring the experience to counter the diffi culties and benefi ting from the fertile soils and the unusual healthiness of the coasts.
