Gianfranco Caniggia and the historical-procedural typology: “formation”
and “deformation” of the city in the resulting visual experiences
The work intends framing the theme of contemporary city and urban project within the theoretical-methodological experiences due to Gianfranco Caniggia (“historical-procedural typology”), experimented in the context of the specificities connected to the drawing disciplines, understood in its broadest meaning of representation and visual communication. This is the starting point of the study, organized according to two lines of development which, first of all, investigate urban morphology, specifically the dialectic of some primary topics: first settlement cities/urban expansions/planning;
typology/project; language/style; typological process/creativity. Following, the reasoning on the theme within the representation discipline: city “formation” and “deformation”; urban morphology and community. Crisis and references; relationships among users and “remedialization”.
