The System for the Protection and Education of Archaeological Heritage, SyPEAH, a platform web system based on open source software, is the result of the project of monitoring and maintenance of the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, which stems from the desire to build a sustainable system of protection at the service of fruition and enhancement.
By means of specially developed algorithms, the system aims to elaborate a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the vulnerability of the archaeological asset and thus to assess the risk of loss of the asset itself. The aim is to act on the archaeological structures before the phenomenon can negatively affect it. In particular, through the implementation of a Decision Support System (DSS), realized in one of the technologies currently considered effective and working in the scientific literature of the sector based on neural networks and Machine Learning (ML) techniques, the system is able to manage the information present on the platform, namely: satellite data, images, IoT data, archaeological and historical data sheets, geological data, weeds, etc. The framework of this data is engineered to have a specific pattern that is directly linked to the ML process under development and that will support the decision-making phase of the management of maintenance activities.
