About Architectural Spaces of the City.

Today, in the discipline of architecture, “space” is one of the most controversial concepts, and perhaps the most ambiguous, too. The implications of the term “space” and the theoretical model that underlies it are still being negotiated and affirmed in divergent ways within various disciplines. The paper is aimed to claim the significant of architectural space in relation to both the architectural and urban scales. In order to overcome the inherited conception of space it’s necessary to imagine, describe, and define also the outer spatiality of the city. A typology of the outer spaces of the city would have the task of introducing a differentiated definition of the meaning of familiar and excessively generalizing terms – those of the cityscape or townscape – and of contributing to a synchronous spatial understanding of the inner and outer spaces of the city.
