Pompeya y Herculano entre dos mundos

Pompeya y Herculano son dos yacimientos esenciales para la Arqueología clásica y la Historia Antigua. Desde que comenzaron a ser excavados en el siglo XVIII no han dejado de sorprender al mundo, haciéndole partícipe de la vida cotidiana de los antiguos romanos. Ambos han sido fuente de inspiración en el arte, la literatura o el cine, entre otras disciplinas, y su recepción ha sido (y sigue siendo) bien estudiada por los especialistas en ámbito europeo. Durante bastante tiempo se pensó que España y América Latina habían quedado al margen del influjo de estos descubrimientos, pero esta idea ha sido desmontada gracias a los estudios realizados en los últimos años, los cuales han venido a mostrar una imagen bien distinta. Este volumen es una buena muestra de ello, pues recoge una serie de trabajos en los que se analiza cómo los descubrimientos campanos fueron recibidos y apropiados por parte de la sociedad americana y española.

Pompeii and Herculaneum are two essential sites for classical archaeology and ancient history. Since the excavations began in the 18th century, these sites have never ceased to amaze the world, giving us a glimpse into the daily life of the ancient Romans. Both have been a source of inspiration in art, literature, film, and other disciplines. The reception of these ancient cities has been (and its being) well studied by European specialists. For a long time it was thought that Spain and Latin America had been left out of the influence of these discoveries, but this idea has been dismantled thanks to the studies carried out in recent years, which have shown a very different picture. This volume is a good example of this, as it brings together a series of works that analyse how the discoveries in Campania were received and appropriated by Latin-American and Spanish societies.
