Forma Urbis: alcune osservazioni
In: Bullettino della Commissione Archeologica Comunale di Roma: 117, 2017
The unexpected discovery of a new fragment of the Forma Urbis calls our attention to the problem of fragment dispersion from the Sexteenth century onwards. Some monuments that are missing in the surviving pieces could suggest deliberate choices of displacement of more ‘interesting’ monuments. From a topographical point of view, the new fragment depicts the ramp system to connect the area of Circus Flaminius with the ripa Tiberis in a clearer and better structured way. On the grounds of the archaeological data, this arrangement dates not before the late first century A.D. Accordingly, the dating of the via Anicia plan should be revised, since this arrangement of the ripa is depicted in it.
