Rilievo Torlonia inv. n. 430: l'immagine sul faro
In: Bullettino della Commissione Archeologica Comunale di Roma: 118, 2018
This article studies the figure standing on the lighthouse depicted on the Torlonia Relief. The relevant typological classification allows the author to identify this figure as a Roman emperor. Although an image of Augustus is not impossible, the chronology of the relief suggests that this is a representation of either Trajan or Antoninus Pius. The interpretation of the figure is also discussed, as a symbol of security in Roman harbors, as well as safety of navigation and prosperity of Rome, as a consequence of the works of the emperors.
