Funzione e spazi espositivi degli ornamenta marmorei a soggetto mitologico da Pompei ed Ercolano

It shows a first synthetic report of the roman reliefs with mythological themes, conventionally called “neoattics“, coming from Pompei ed Ercolano. The aim of this paper is to focus the attention on the data source through reading the excavation diaries published in recent decades and to provide a new contextualization of the ornamenta in the public and private places. The lucky circumstances of Vesuvius sculptures finding allow the more accurate interpretation of the meaning and the function of this objects category in roman times. More exactly it focuses on the public and sacred value, that they could have beyond a more common ornamental purpose.
