With this contribution we celebrate the 25th year
of
the excavations on the Palatine hill.
The areas on which we have centred our research are:
- Roma Quadrata
located by the sources between the
area apollinis
and the
supercilium
scalarum Caci.
- Casa Romuli,
identified with a rectangular structure in
opus quadratum
on the west
of
the
top
of
the
Scalae Caci.
- Lupercal sub monte Palatino,
which was not identified but which offered an opportunity
to investigate the entire area at the foot
of
the south-west corner
of
the hill.
- Aedes Victoriae,
built in 294 B.C. at the top
of
the
Scalae Caci,
which we reconstructed.
- Curia Saliorum,
hypothetically located by us in the house
of
Livia,
of
which we drafted a
new plan.
- Aedes Magnae Matris,
of
which we excavated the entire sanctuary area and were able to
establish the date
of
the end
of
the cult, about the fifth century AD., through the study
of
about one thousand ceramic sherds and other materials.
