This analysis underlines the importance of ancient Roman architecture and the
iconographic functions of statuary in city development of late antiquity. Through examples
and descriptions, F Alto Bauer points out iconographic rules

the
mise-en-scène in the Roman Forum and similarities among Rome, Constantinople and
Ephesus.
In this theoretical approach to the idea of city-space, we find the following terms:
