Sulla via Triumphalis in età arcaica

Attraverso i dati provenienti dai nuovi scavi e dall’esame dei vecchi ritrovamenti, il contributo mira a ricostruire il percorso e la storia della via Triumphalis in età arcaica. In particolare, vengono avanzate nuove ipotesi in merito all’origine del nome della strada, alle sue modalità di costruzione e controllo, al sistema di computo delle miglia in uso fino alla fine dell’età imperiale. Infine, sulla base di dati archeologici e linguistici, viene proposta una nuova ipotesi di interpretazione per la porta Ratumena.


Through the data coming from the new excavations and examination of old findings, the paper aims to reconstruct the route and the history of the via Triumphalis in the Archaic period. In particular, are being put forward new hypotheses about the origin of the street name, its modality of construction and control, the mileage computation system in use until the end of the imperial age. Finally, based on archaeological and linguistic data, a new hypothesis of interpretation for the origin of the name of Porta Ratumena it is proposed.
