Abakainon is an ancient Siculan settlement on the Nebrodi mountains, facing on the caostline between Mylae and Tyndaris. The archaeological survey has revealed a great cultural and economical activity in the settlement, which issued coins between the V and IV cent. B.C. On the basis of the few elements available, this paper aims at retracing the occurrences of Abakainon in ancient sources, including the site in the broader political and military events of Sicily in the Greek period.
