The authors analyse a small group of plain and relief-decorated fragments of terra sigillata
manufactured at Cales in the Augustan period. Morphologically, these products show a close
resemblance to the other Italic terra sigillata wares; nevertheless, some elements appear to be
characteristic of Cales.
The distribution of potters' stamps shows that the Calenian red-gloss
ware circulated on a scale that was not exclusively regional, probably along the same trade
routes that were used for Calenian black-glazed ware.
