Dopo aver definito la nozione di ‘intersectio’ e la sua applicazione nell’ambito delle scienze del testo, si fornisce una breve panoramica delle differenti funzioni (per es. confermativa vs esplorativa) collegate all’approccio quantitativo in filologia. Tali funzioni vengono esemplificate tramite il commento di casi specifici desunti dall’esperienza di ricerca dell’autrice. Si mostra, infine, che una sintesi virtuosa tra metodi qualitativi e quantitativi permette di ottenere risultati migliori in molti ambiti d’indagine, specialmente – anche se non esclusivamente – per quanto concerne la riusabilità dei dati prodotti e la loro trasferibilità a un pubblico più ampio e differenziato.
Intersectiones. The European dimension of mediaeval philologies between qualitative and quantitative methods
After defining the notion of ‘intersection’ and its application in the field of both textual criticism and textual analysis, a brief overview of the different functions (e.g. confirmative vs explorative) of the quantitative approach is offered and illustrated through a series of examples built upon the author’s own research expertise. It is then shown that a virtuous synthesis between qualitative and quantitative methods in the philological field permits to achieve better results in many research areas, especially – though not exclusively – in terms of reusability of the data provided, as well as in terms of their transferability to a wider and multi-layered audience.
