The archive conserved in the National Library of Naples is an essential support to reconstruct the human and cultural history of Pasquale Baffi. An impressive correspondence with the European cultural élite of the period, drafts and original official communications, manuscripts copies of literary works allow to understand the different strands of Baffi’s path.
Baffi was a hellenist, a lawyer and a librarian of the royal Bourbon library, opened to the public on 13th January 1804 also thanks to his patient work.
He was not present to the opening: his human story ended on the scaffold in 1799 due to his participation to the Republic of 1799.
