The paper examines the town of Centumcellae and based on archaeological, literary and epigraphic, it intends to offer an overview on the Portus Traiani town planning from a point of view which has not been taken in consideration in previous studies, that is the establishment of a town around the harbour.
There is the hypothesis, through the description of the harbour only construction by Plinius the Younger, that the town risen on Via Aurelia is subsequent to the Trajan’s foundation.

Il contributo esamina l’abitato di Centumcellae e sulla base di evidenze archeologiche, letterarie ed epigrafiche si propone di offrire una panoramica sull’urbanistica del Portus Traiani da un punto di vista non preso in considerazione negli studi precedenti, ovvero la costituzione di un centro abitato intorno allo scalo portuale. Si formula l’ipotesi, mediante la descrizione della sola costruzione del porto da Plinio il Giovane, che l’abitato sorto sulla via Aurelia sia successivo alla fondazione traianea.
