The article presents more than one testimony of the use of water wheels to raise water from the subsoil from the Ostiense and Portuense territories. It presents the recomposed fragments of a wooden water wheel with compartimented rim from the Cisiarii thermal baths, recently restored and providing data relating to the discovery of other artifacts that constitute concrete evidence of this roman water –lifting technology for both agricultural and manufacturing activities. They come from excavations carried out in a rural area (Binario Morto) which is directly outside the city walls of Ostia, and in the area falling within the
Campus Salinarum Romanarum near via Portuense (Le Vignole). Through comparisons and literary testimonies we try to graphically explain how the movement of the wheels could take place in the narrow spaces for which they were intended.

L’articolo presenta alcune testimonianze dell’uso di ruote idrauliche per sollevare l’acqua dal sottosuolo, nei territori ostiense e portuense. Vi si presentano i frammenti ricomposti di una ruota idraulica lignea dalle terme dei
Cisiarii, recentemente restaurata, e si forniscono dati relativi al ritrovamento di alcuni manufatti inediti, che attestano concretamente questa pratica a fine sia agricolo che manifatturiero.
Essi provengono da scavi effettuati subito al di fuori delle mura urbane di Ostia, in un’area rurale (Binario Morto) e in una parte di territorio del Campus Salinarum Romanarum, presso la via Portuense (Le Vignole). Attraverso confronti e testimonianze letterarie si cerca di spiegare, anche graficamente, come poteva avvenire la movimentazione delle ruote negli spazi angusti cui esse erano destinate.
