Novità nello scriptorium dei Romani

A statue of a togatus in the Africa Proconsularis demonstrates the existence of large-format notebooks of tabulae ceratae, useful to authors and Roman officials for the draft of long and complex documents. Furthermore, Pompeian painting attests to the existence of wooden boxes, decorated with paintings or reliefs with masks, useful for unrolling long papyrus scrolls during reading.

Par ailleurs, la peinture romaine atteste l’existence de caisses en bois, décorées de peintures ou de reliefs avec masques, utiles pour dérouler les longs papyrus lors de la lecture.
