Origins and meaning of the High School of Architecture in Rome, 1914-1925
The text highlights for the first time the timing of the birth of the School of Architecture in Rome from
1914 onwards, that is, already before the Great War, within the Royal Institute of Fine Arts of the Capital
(the first of its kind in Italy) and the related regulatory measures that have defined the order up to the time
of the definitive start of the courses.
In this general framework, the moments, the legislative terms and the teaching programs of the School
in question and its subsequent “special course of study of Italian monuments”, forerunners of the current
Faculty of Architecture and School of Specialization in Architectural Heritage and the Landscape of
Sapienza - University of Rome, are also retraced.
