Historical study and museum project of the Messapian city of Valesio
The archaeological area of Valesio, in the province of Brindisi, represents, with its wall enclosure from
the 4th century BC, a large container of material and intangible stories, for which the ethical need for
conservation and transmission to future generations arises. The tools and operational choices proposed
move from purely cultural, educational and memory reasons, since if the latter is the fundamental
element for defining the identity of a place and the generations that inhabit it, then the restoration project
becomes a way of safeguarding and promoting it didactically. The advanced design proposal includes the
construction of a protective structure for the conservation of the ruins of the late Roman thermal plant
and a museum design project for the entire area. In this way, the historical peculiarities identified became
the strengths of the project.
