This work briefly describes the various phases and the problems encountered that led to the production of BIA2000 on CD-Rom and then to the current on-line version, BIA-Net. The requirements, the problems faced, and the functions of the three archives of which the database is composed (Fontes, Opera, Thesaurus), and their interactive relationships that allow their "navigation" are discussed, as well as the challenges faced for the on-line version and the updates that will be necessary in the next years.
