The paper takes into consideration some important peculiarities of the pre-Roman and Roman Altinum, one of the most important commercial harbours in the Adriatic sea: the town-planning in connection with the information passed down from ancient sources, the dynamics of the navigation and in particular the wide range of the import and export foreign trade.
