The territorial descriptive and cognitive aspects of the Venetian Lagoon, with its hydraulic dynamics and the complexity of its functions, recordable today with the most recent geomatics techniques or contained in archival documents or maps of the past, can be enhanced by applications that allow the integration of diff erent data and information, whether they are historical, geographical or economic. In addition the technological development, and the increasing integration between different professional skills and scientific disciplines are crucial for a multidisciplinary approach, supported by platforms dedicated to integration, leading to the definition of powerful knowledge and dissemination tools. In particular, the management and the preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage substantially benefit not only from the new documentation and archiving systems but, above all, from the use and dissemination of digital data.
