Valeria Purcaro (1947-2021): the History of Fifty Years of Archaeological Research between the Marche Region and Libya
On October 28, 2021, we lost Valeria Purcaro, archaeologist of the Università di Urbino. She was a disciple of Sandro Stucchi, a fellow student of Lidiano Bacchielli, Mario Luni and many other protagonists of the Italian archaeological research in Libya. She dedicated her studies to Cyrene and the Marche region. Concerning Cyrene she was involved principally in the studies of the numerous monuments of the Agora, such as the Temple of Apollo Archegetes; for the Marche, she focused on topics associated with her own city, Fano. For several years after Luni’s death she held the position of director of the Mission of the Università di Urbino in Libya, guaranteeing its continuity and maintaining the bonds of the research group, as well as preserving the relationship with the Department of Antiquities of Libya.
