Regio I. Pitture inedite di Terzo Stile

Il completamento dello scavo delle insulae della Regio I di Pompei tra il 1990 e il 2000 ha fatto conoscere un buon numero di nuovi ambienti decorati in III stile. In questa sede si presentano 6 casi di fatto inediti. La loro scoperta, sommata alle altre già note di questa parte della città, testimonia con maggiore evidenza la trasformazione delle piccole e anguste case a schiera di II sec. a.C. in abitazioni più ambiziose tra la fine del I sec. a.C, e la prima metà del I sec. d.C. con spazi nuovi ingentiliti con i sistemi decorativi alla moda del tempo. Nei quadri qui presentati, oltre a temi ampiamente diffusi come Andromeda liberata, paesaggi idillico sacrali, Efesto, Pyramus e Thisbe, probabilmente abbiamo per la prima volta a Pompei la rappresentazione del mito di Polidoro ed Enea nel Chersoneso Tracico.

The completion of the excavation of the insulae of the Regio I in Pompeii made between 1990 and 2000 led to a good number of new rooms ornated according to the 3rd style. Here, 6 cases, actually unpublished, are presented. Th eir discovery, added to the others already known in this part of the city, testifi es with a better evidence the transformation from the little narrow terraced houses of the II c. B.C. to the more opulent ones between the I c. B.C and the I c. A.D., with new spaces refi ned with ornaments according to the fashion of the time. In the pictures shown here , in addition to themes widely spread in the city, like the freed Andromeda, idyllic sacral landscapes, Hephaestus, Pyramus and Thisbe, it is possible to see, probably for the fi rst time in Pompeii, the representation of the myth of Polydorus and Aeneas in the Thracian Chersonese.
